An Astrophysicist's Journey into Food, Health, Climate, and Complexity

Phil Gregory previously did a talk in Penrith at Newton Rigg in 2016 called, The Magic of Soil. We are excited to have him back with us to do this October 2nd webinar. Phil will share some of his findings from his new book, Pathway to Regeneration. Please bring your questions. This will be engaging!

Speaker:

Phil Gregory, Professor Emeritus of Physics and Astronomy at the University of British Columbia

Date:

Saturday, 2nd of October 2021

“Only 60 Years of Farming Left If Soil Degradation Continues.”

The announcement by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization about soil degradation was a tipping point for Phil Gregory, Professor Emeritus of Physics and Astronomy at the University of British Columbia. In 2015, he transitioned from searching for new planets to exploring how to sustain human life on our own planet Earth.

On this journey, Gregory kept running into the interconnections between agricultural practices, soil health, biodiversity, climate change, and human health. He concludes that life as normal is leading us to extinction.

New Book: Pathway to Regeneration

His new book, “Pathway to Regeneration,” details the many surprises he encountered including an amazing revolution in our understanding of soil biology and nature's complexity that offers so much potential to tackle the imminent collapse of farming, climate change, and chronic disease epidemics. It is really a good news story but not one that is widely appreciated.

Join us in a key debate on this controversial topic between a founder and leading proponent of Holistic Management (Allan Savory) and a prominent critic (George Monbiot). The event will be chaired by Professor E.J. Milner-Gulland, Tasso Leventis Professor of Biodiversity at the University of Oxford. Entry to this event is free, but please book in advance.
